When students are starting out wanting to learn an instrument, there are some common questions that are asked. So I’ve added them to this “Frequently Asked Questions” blog to help
- How long are the lessons? Generally they are 40 mins but depending on the age and experience of the student they may be shorter or longer
- How long do I need to practice? It depends on the age and experience of the student but the recommendation would be to aim for 20 mins per day for students under the age of 10 and increasing incrementally as the student is older/more experienced.
- Do I need to purchase my own instrument? You don’t need to straight away if you don’t want to. However, you will need access to an instrument to practice. A number of music shops will hire instruments out for a rental charge. Get in touch and I can give you a list of where to go.
- Where do the lessons take place? The lessons are in my music studio based in Skerries in North Co. Dublin.
- Do I need to learn to read music to play an instrument? Its recommended that you do learn to sight read music as it will make the understanding of the instrument and your progression in learning to play much easier.
- Can I take grade exams? Yes, I will guide you through the preparation and organisation of your registration for exams through the Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)
- Can I just play for fun? Absolutely, there is no requirement to take grade examinations if you do not wish to.
